bentenfilms.com v2.0

Benten_logo250pixelshighJust in time for our upcoming release of The Guatemalan Handshake on 29 April, Aaron and I are proud to announce the launch of the newly designed and overhauled Benten Films website.

Along with detailed information on our current releases, there are pages for both The Guatemalan Handshake and The Free Will (Der Freie Wille). There you'll find information about the releases, stills to download (suitable for framing), and a trailer or clip from the film.

We've also created a features section, and to kick it off there's a wonderful interview with Ola Podrida frontman David Wingo, composer of not only The Guatemalan Handshake soundtrack, but also David Gordon Green's George Washington, All the Real Girls, and the recently released Snow Angels.

The site still has a few kinks, and we're in the process of redesigning (and adding content to) the Benten Blog, but otherwise it should all be fully functional. Feel free to stop by and say hello.

gorgeous site guys! I love how the image pops out of the grid. You got some prime banner space at the top that's vacant though.. :-)

You know, I greatly admire your new company but I was wondering:
why won't you guys supplement the american films with subtitles?
I realize it could sort of seem redundant, english subtitles for an english-language film, but, speaking as someone who's deaf, for some people it's sort of a big deal.
You 're not the first to decline doing so, of course.
It's standard practice among most of the specialized companies (is it really that expensive, captioning or subtitling a film?)
Criterion outlaws subtitling from most of its english-language outputs and I've had the unfortunate experience of renting, say, Hannah takes the Stairs and Mutual Apprecciation, only to find myself feeling left out.
I know I'm seriously considering buying Der Freie Wille but I think it's a shame since it's the only one of your releases that I've actually already seen. Why? Because, being a foreign film, the print that was available had subtitles.
Anyways, keep up the good work. Definitely a great company, providing a great service, and I think you guys have a great future ahead of you. Excuse the gushing.

Anhedoniac --

For the very reason you state, all of our releases have English subtitles.

To answer a question you asked, the cost of subtitling is quite expensive, as both the transcription and the timing of the titles take many hours to complete and perfect.

Hope you enjoy the films!

Thank you for being so gracious when answering.
I'm very happy to hear they DO have subtitles and feel rather ashamed for having brought it up.
Unfortunately, I overlooked the Tech specs in Benten's webpage...
Thank you very much for caring, Benten, really and truly, very much apprecciated!
