My first thought would be 'Girl on a motorcycle' although the girl doesn't really sound like Marianne Faithfull.

LindaT

It sounds like Udo Kier, but I don't know what movie it could be. The girl has a distinct 1950-60s lilt. In other words, no idea.

RGHunt57

I thought it was "Girl on a Motorcycle" too, - but I can't recall a scene like that...

Manjit A

Is it Suspiria?

ChokoBoko

this may sound pretty off, but i thought it was 'out of africa', with that funny accent of meryl streep vs brandauer. but maybe i'm in just to spark off a few laughs

GrimFey

Sounds a bit too young for Streep, methinks.

su-su

'fahrenheit 451'? but then, the guy does not really sound like oskar werner...

anonymous

I don't recall the exact dialogue, but this sounds like it might be the amazing cult actress Mimsy Farmer and Klaus Grünberg in Barbet Schroeder's anti-flower power death ballad, More.

Anonymous --

That could be it....I'm going to check.

Glenn Kenny

Give the cigar to Anonymous, my friend—it is indeed from "More." Damn it. What threw me off was the sound of the idling motorcycle—it made me think I was looking for a scene in which one of the characters was, you know, on a motorcycle. As it happens, Ms. Farmer (whose Sebergesque vocal affectlessness should have been a giveaway) and Herr Grunberg are conversing on a balcony, and the cycle is merely street noise. Again, damn it.

Filmbrain

Glenn (and anonymous) -- thanks so much for putting my mind at ease. I probably haven't seen More since the late 80s -- amazing that it still struck a familiar chord.

Now I can sleep peacefully...

Good job. I wouldn't have found it. It kinda drove me crazy too for a while. I was sure I hadn't seen it. I was wondering about this passive-aggressive scene of indifference-jealousy within a couple. Are they in love? Are they separated? A weird scene that couldn't be a classic. And the context of the film makes sense of this sexual liberation undertone.
A cheap movie in my mind, though kind of transgressive.

Peter Nellhaus

I loved this film when I saw it at the Art Theater on 8th Street, twice in a row, one night in 1969. My favorite Mimsy.

Jobse

Thank you so much, I absolutely love this song, and I have been wondering for about half a year where that dialogue came from.
