| I just flew in from Berlin and boy are my......
I had completely forgotten that Wim Wenders co-opted Hopper's Nighthawks at the Diner in I'm functioning on a total of six hours of sleep over the last forty-eight. To say I'm delirious is an understatement. After catching up on the Zzzs I'll be back with more Berlinale reviews. This week: the image says it all. Name the film. Submit your answers to this address. Good luck! |

Dear Filmbrain:
This is totally off-topic, but I just wanted to let you know that I watched Dance Party, U.S.A. last night, and I loved it. I know you didn't make the film, but you did distribute it, and I thank you for doing so. It is the best film about teenagers I have seen in a long time. Such an honest film, and I don't know how much of it was improvised, but the language was pitch perfect. Because my wife and I sleep in the same room as our newborn, we had to watch the film with the sound low and the subtitles on, and I haven't had that much fun reading since I finished Kentucky Ham last week. I though the length was perfect and it ended at exactly the right moment. What I liked the most was the specificity of the story, how one boy tries to not be such a dick, and, for a moment or two, achieves his goal. I don't think I've ever seen a movie about teenagers before that tries to lock in on something like this. Quiet City is in my queue, and I hope to watch it next week. If you know Aaron Katz, please tell him that he has made a movie that will be appreciated for a long time. I would place Dance Party, U.S.A. alongside any of the usual suspects in the pantheon of great films about what it's like to young and confused and beautiful and so goddamned full of promise. I look forward to what Aaron Katz and Benten are going to do next. A job well done. Bravo.
Best,
Chris

Wim Wenders? A History of Violence? Filmbrain, now you 're yanking our chain, aren't you? The jetlag accounts for the incident with Alan Parker and The Vicious Circle incident and it's an honest mistake on it's own, anyways, not to mention a very funny one.
This one's kind of funny as well, it's plain to see that the Midwestern Americana setting is certainly material that one would have more readily assocciated with Wim once upon a time.
Come to think of it, you should continue the trend of these "innocent blunders", and give a no-prize to the first one to spot them, as an addendum to your awesome screen capture quizzes!

History/The End of -- see what happens when I don't get enough sleep. Thanks for pointing it out!
Chris -- thanks for the kind words. I'm (obviously) a huge fan of the film, and am happy that it's not getting completely overshadowed by Quiet City. I'll be sure to pass on your comment to Aaron.

Much like Chris, I also wanted to pass along the joy I've had watching Quiet City. Wrote the lead review at the following forum:
