LOVE ME TONIGHT is just too tame for me. The schoolboys comment is cute, but ever since THE WEDDING CRASHERS semi-remade it, I can't help but prefer the Lubitsch musicals. With Lubitsch, the sex games are more disturbing and the jokes last longer.

*deeply embarrassed* I, uh, haven't seen Love Me Tonight. So at least I have an excuse, though it's the old David Lodge Humiliation excuse.

In Myrna Loy's autobiography I remember her saying that later censors cut her chorus of "Mimi" because you could see the outline of her bellybutton through her gown. Ah, the Code.

Campaspe, I'm jealous that you have such a spectacular film to look forward to seeing for the first time! (I probably do too, but no titles come to mind right away).

OutOfContext

Can't get enough of Jeanette MacDonald in any non-Eddy movie. I saw the movie so long ago that all I remember is that I liked it. I also really liked Mamoulian's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Frederick March's Hyde made a big impression on me when I first saw it.
