| "What we need is a little more good old-fashioned Christianity and whole lot less of this new fangled bee-you-rock-racy." So says George W. Bush Lonesome Rhodes in Budd Schulberg's wonderful short story, Your Arkansas Traveler, which became the equally wonderful A Face in the Crowd, arguably Elia Kazan's greatest film. If you've never seen Andy Griffith's portrayal of the yokel who becomes a media and political sensation, you need to....immediately. (The recently released DVD looks great.) It's a dark, cutting satire that's frighteningly relevant to the status quo. A jumbo bottle of Vitajex to all of you that got it right.
There's a first in this week's quiz -- Filmbrain has blurred part of the image, for to reveal the word on the left would make things far too easy. Name the film, and for a bonus point, name the song that is played during this scene. Submit your answers to this address. Good luck! |
Actually, I think that word's still legible....

Really? Then your eyes are far better than mine!
Perhaps it's subliminal if you know the film?

The song that plays in the theatrical release or the song that plays in the home video release?

Nothing escapes you D'Angelo, eh? (^_^)
Actually, I didn't realize until today that it had changed. I've only ever seen it in the theater and on (Danish) DVD, which uses the theatrical song. Either will do.

Griffith gets kind of scary in Face. Too bad everything else he did was faux folksy. Lee Remick was pretty cute in the cheerleader outfit.
