| "Is that on DVD already?" -- a question many of you asked in your submissions to last week's quiz. Miranda July's wonderful, magnificent Me and You and Everyone We Know had only been on shelves for a single day, but that didn't stop an overwhelming number of you from getting it right. Filmbrain has been in a bit of a funk for the past few days. He hit a major milestone age-wise this week -- one that he's simply not prepared for, and is in a bit of denial about. (Does the mid-life crisis begin today?) At least he shares a birthday with such noted Librans as Klaus Kinski, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Jesse Helms. Sigh. For this week's quiz, he thought he'd choose a film that was also a milestone in terms of his film education. And though he was perhaps a tad too young to fully appreciate it when it was originally released, it's a film that he has returned to many times over the years. Coincidentally, the film opens with the lead actor mentioning that he'd just turned forty. Sigh again. Filmbrain couldn't imagine a better, more apropos scene than this one. And now the heavy drinking begins. . . Submit your answers to this address. Good luck! |

I always knew there was something about your writing that reminded me of both Jesse Helms and Lee Harvey Oswald. Happy birthday!

Lordy, Lordy, Filmbrain's...
Personally, your writing has always reminded me of Kinski's autobiography.

"Margo Channing was not a bitch. She was an actress who was getting older and was not too happy about it. And why should she? Anyone who says that life begins at forty is full of it. As people get older their bodies begin to decay. They get sick. They forget things. What's good about that?"

For once I (think) I know the answer to this one... but way too late to join the fun.
Belated Happy B-DAY Andrew!

A couple years ago my lawyer had his 20th annual 39th birthday party. 40 is a bitch goddess to be sure, just remember that you've already lived your 40th year so the worst is over; this one's more like a hangover.

This may make you feel better. A while ago, I posted the first 3 pages of Klaus Kinski's autobiography on my blog. It will certainly pick up your spirits. If interested: http://amppower.blogspot.com/2005/08/klaus-on-brain.html
