This is a lovely, quirky little film that I'm happy to see you bring attention to. It also has a nice jazzy soundtrack and interesting architectural play with the apartment complex. And BAE Doo-na is one of South Korea's more interesting starlets, in that she isn't a star. In that, although well known throughout South Korea, she is NOT a box office draw. Sadly, I think her willingness to play ugly characters, such as this one, might be part of the reason she's not popular at home. Her popular appreciation overseas appears to supercede her status in South Korea, however, so I'm curious how the Japanese film she's now working on will be received.

Filmbrain

Ah yes -- I completely forgot to mention the soundtrack -- jazz and percussion themes that really work in the film.

As for Bae Doo-na, personally, I find her kind of cute.

Steve

Have you seen Bong's wonderful MEMORIES OF MURDER?

Filmbrain

Oh yes! And I have been meaning to write about it for some time now.

He instantly became one of my favorate directors after i watched the barking dog.

Sarmoung

I'm wondering if that's the same dog from the rooftop sequence in Oldboy...?

if you compare two films, you can find similar,
but differently directed, scenes - sudden run,
trace in the narrow way, and basement talking.

sudden run in the aisle of apartment in Barking
suddene run in the rainyday when the murder happens in Memories.

trace in the narrow apartment aisle
trace in the town alley

basement talking of Boiler Kim
basement investigation
